At 1.30pm today while out with my friend at ash ranges I was bitten with one fang by an adult male adder. The snake got tangled in heather and like a fool i didn't let go.
Immeadiately felt the burn at the site of the bite and my finger became swollen within about 4 minutes. the swelling spread gradualy through all fingers and pain was felt localy and up my left forearm to the elbow.
Spent the afternoon at frimley park hospital but am now home. No AV was administered just painkillers anti-inflamitorys and a tetnus jab.

look on the bright side al...at least it's your left hand so it shouldn't affect your love-life too much.

seriously...hope it gets better soon and doesn't keep you away from herping for too long.

Thanks for the well wishes and good humour folks , much appreciated.
been getting waves of nausea this evening with cold sweats , it's gonna be a restless night i feel.

Tony a gab? Now that's serious, how's he doing? by the way , when i got home from the hospital there was a very p****d off looking adder on the doorstep, he said, "I've tracked you from ash to frimley and back to ash aren't you dead yet, i'm hungry"

Hey Andy, I'm a very fortunate man mate, my wife does the work while I stay home and raise the monsters

Tim, LOL! I'd find a way if i had no hands
thanks folks,

Keep us updated on how long for the hand to get back to normality Al.

Looks like I won't need to Pm you to sort out a trip out to the heaths in the next couple of weeks.

Get better soon.

Well looking at the temperatures for the next few days, it starting to cool down so I guess the end of the season maybe just around the corner.

I'm around from this Thursday till the end of next week(except Saturday), so we'll sort something if you're feeling up to it.

hi paul me old matey. The elephants were eyeing me up , so you're right, it could've been alot worse

An update. The swelling continued up untill the early hours and now comes up to the bicep and tricep, elbow has become stiff and there is very little mobility in the fingers. Arm and hand are fine while kept elevated but as soon as the limb is lowered there is an intense pain which is followed by an almighty internal itch throughout the hand and up into the wrist

please forgive lack of caps ect , just typing with one hand

just read through jerrys post here
jerrys bite
this is so similar to my bite, the swelling has now gone to my left shoulder and my hand has virtualy no mobility.
i was not offered av because my heart rate remained normal as did my blood pressure and i experienced no nausea up untill last night when i was home.
the doctor said that he would not administer av as he felt the selling was due to an allergic reaction and he felt that i'd recieved no venom.
i told him that i knew i had recieved venom as i'd recieved two very minor bites earlier in life and this was different , i'd felt the stinging burn almost immeadiately.
i'm quite annoyed now as my arm is huge, all the way up and the only relief is like jerry said with arm elevated high above my head like i'm in a classroom requesting the teachers attention.

Hi Steve,
Thanks for the well wishes mate. I'm afraid I just did not feel like doing anything yesterday , but I shall take some snaps today .
It's pretty much the same this morning ,although I do have a little mobility in my fingers, but that may be due to the fact i've just woken up and it's been rested all night
Cheers,
Al

Hey Steve,
Thanks mate.
Just returned from Frimley Park Hospital where two different doctors looked at my arm and said, "You were not given AV?"

Those of us working with venomous will all eventually get tagged. The advantage is when we survive and use what we learn to avoid a reoccurrence.
